Juwan got his first technic turntable at the age of ten. Brought up in a home that was full of a love in music, his Mother listened to WBMX’s own Hot mix 5 and also had a record collection to be proud of with Hip Hop, Disco, Nu Wave, Jazz, and House. With all of this influence, Juwan has created a well rounded and unique music selection. In the early 90’s Juwan started playing his own house parties and would play for hours on end, playing choice selections of some of the best Hip Hop of the Golden Era, even after the part was well over into the early hours of the next morning. People started to gain interest and he found himself playing at local spots around his home town. A friend took him to Chicago to play at a few underground loft parties that took place on North Ave in Wicker Park. This is where the education process started on what house music meant to him. Playing tracks from the likes of Derrick Carter, Doc Martin, Romanthony, Blaze, Stacy Kidd, Cricco Castelli, Cassius, and Bob Sinclar to name a few, all turned into the building blocks for him to become an influential part of house music today.
With his encyclopedic knowledge of music, its not about the names that are in the industry, but the sound that drove Juwan into production and landed his first production deal with Cincinnati’s house music label, Lingo Recordings. The impact was so deep, Juwan is now the A&R Manager for the label, due to the great ear for not only the sure win, but also for the ones with potential to get better. Dustpan Recordings, Openbar Music, Cabbie hat, Hawt Misic, and UKNOWY are a couple of labels that have taken notice to his production skills and added Juwans releases to there catalogue as well.
Juwan is a midwest house music innovator, pushing all across the map with his rock solid mixing abilities, and exclusive track selection. Having his hands in the underground producer’s catalogs, as well as his own outfit of house music, Juwan’s sets are a one of a kind, cutting edge experience.
