As the excitement builds for the release of his debut House Phenomenon EP, we at Dustpan are thrilled to present an exclusive interview with Northern Ireland's underground house sensation, MrSee. With over two decades of DJing and producing, MrSee has been a cornerstone of the local club scene and a global influencer in house music. Let's dive into his journey, inspirations, and what fans can expect from this highly anticipated release.

MrSee performing live as a DJ at a nightclub

What's up, MrSee! Tell us about your journey. How did you get started in the house music scene?

I started going to a local nightclub at the age of 16 “lol” and after 3 or 4 visits I was hooked!

First off, congrats on the new release! House Phenomenon EP is fire. What's the story behind it? Any wild studio moments?

I wanted to make 2 tracks that focus on my sound right now. The lead track "TALKIN SH_T" was actually put together around a Phil Weeks vocal sample I came across and just wanted to keep the flow very housey. "HUNG UP", again the vocal sample was the first thing that caught my ear, and I wanted to make an old-school deep jacking type vibe with that one.

Influences on Deck: Who are the artists or sounds that have shaped your music the most?

I’m a huge fan of Phil Weeks & DJ Sneak and their sound over the years. I love all types of house music, to be honest, but definitely the French/US-sounding house is for me!

Your Signature Sound: How would you describe your vibe? What sets your beats apart in the sea of house music?

I would describe my sound as Underground House. I always try and stick to the same vibe when putting projects together. I’m not a fan of people trying to change your style to suit a label or a night.

From the Underground: Can you share a memorable gig or underground event that left a mark on you?

Probably the one that stands out is when I was booked to warm up for Phil Weeks over in England for Vifify.

Production Hacks: Any secret sauce in your production process? What gear or software can't you live without?

I currently use Ableton Live 10 and have a few MIDI keyboards (Akai & M-Audio). I’m actually looking at an MPC for future projects.

Collaborations: If you could drop a track with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Again, it would have to be Phil Weeks or DJ Sneak just because I’ve been a fan of their productions for years and years.

Scene and Community: What's your take on the current house music scene? How do you see it evolving?

To be honest, the scene isn’t as good as it was a few years ago. It's very hard to find a good underground house night either in the UK or further afield. Since COVID became a thing, live streaming has been a breath of fresh air, being able to catch DJs from all over the world.

Keeping It Real: How do you stay true to your roots while pushing the envelope in your music?

I will always stick to my sound because I love it. There's no point in making music that doesn’t give you that buzz!

Fan Love: Any shout-outs to the fans and supporters who’ve been with you on this journey?

I would just like to say thank you so much for supporting my tracks over the years and coming out to see me DJ.

Beyond the Beats: What do you get up to when you're not making music? Any hobbies or passions?

My main passion away from the music is, of course, my family: Eilish, my wife, and our three kids Finlay, Lennon, and Ruby, also not forgetting our two dogs Fudge & Teddy. Regarding hobbies, I love watching football and I’m a huge Liverpool fan.

Future Plans: What's next for MrSee? Any upcoming projects or events we should keep an eye out for?

I have a few more releases due in 2024 which are signed and ready to go and, of course, I’ll continue making more for 2025. Regarding gigs, I’m booked to play a local nightclub in Belfast and I’m hoping it will become a bi-monthly gig in the future!

Final Words: Anything else you want to share with the Dustpan community?

Final word from me is: “I’m so happy to be on the roster at Dustpan Recordings. It's been one of my favorite labels for a long time, so I want to thank Kane personally for having me on board.” KEEP THE UNDERGROUND VIBE ALIVE
